Since that video went viral on Tik Tok and as it’s still gaining attention in the mainstream, media, hundreds of people reached out asking for help, told me their stories and asked me to point them in the direction of resources. I have created this page for people who want to find resources so they can either help themselves or reach out and seek help.
This is an issue that clients talk about on a regular basis and the impact on their lives can be terrible. The level of denial in the comments is apparent and it’s easy not to take this seriously as after all, what’s the harm?
Do not underestimate the dangers of too much porn use, it rewires the brain and messes up your neurochemistry. It takes a lot of strength to admit there is an issue and seek help. You are not alone and you can begin to take your life back by taking steps to reduce and remove porn from your life if it’s not working for you.
List of resources at bottom of the page. If you feel you know a good resource I have missed, please let me know.
To note, despite sexual health and counselling training, I do not advertise myself or am registered as a Sex Therapist. My speciality is in anxiety, stress, depression, low self-esteem, self-worth and confidence issues. Whilst I am happy to work with anyone who needs help with these areas, I may refer you to a registered Sex Therapist as part of your therapy.
If you feel you are doing too much porn, the warning signs to look out for are:
You begin to lose interest in having sex with a real person and want to use porn to relieve yourself instead.
Your partner begins to lose their attraction
You keep feeling compulsions to use porn.
You feel guilty for your habit and begin to get angry at yourself for being a user.
There’s an increase in feeling tense, stressed, anxious and depression due to your neurochemistry being messed around with.
Sleep issues can be a common issue with porn users.
Life begins to lose its shine due to struggling dopamine levels
You begin to lose your drive, passion and motivation for things you used to enjoy.
You suffer from brain fog, procrastinate too much and you start to think more negatively about yourself.
You use porn to self medicate and distract yourself from negative feelings or when stressed or anxious
Erectile dysfunction struggling to cum is becoming more and more common in younger men who use porn and it’s getting worse in teenagers who can become exposed to porn early on in life.
There is a forum called PIED Porn-Induced Erectile dysfunction where thousands of men talk openly about their struggles with sex and porn. Know that you are not alone
You become more isolated and anti-social than normal.
Physical pain from over masturbating, back pain, carpal tunnel from too much computer use
There are important areas of your life being neglected.
Your porn tastes are becoming more extreme.
